You Don’t Have To Be Fit To Be Healthy

You Don't Have to Be Fit to Be Healthy: Bluegrass Blogger, aka Christine, stands facing the camera with her arms curled to show off her muscles. She is wearing a grey and purple athletic tank top and her hair is pulled into a pony tail. She is not very toned, but she still appears content and has a soft smile on her face.

I may not be fit, but I am trying and that’s what counts!

Like so many people, I use my Pinterest account and Instagram feed to curate motivating and inspiring content to encourage me to be healthy. However, sometimes I compare myself to the slim, toned bodies in my feed and I feel dejected.

Hey, I’m only human, right? But that feeling of dejection is a lie. We are all unique individuals and should be viewed as such. Here are a few thoughts I’ve compiled to reference when my perspective becomes flawed.

You Don’t Have to Be Thin to Be Healthy

Being thin is not the epitome of good health.

This thought is not meant to malign those who are thin. It is simply a reminder to myself and others who think being thin is a standard health measure. It’s not.

@mynameisjessamyn is one of my favorite Instagram accounts. She is the perfect example of why your body type does not necessarily determine your health status.

Jessamyn is a strong, athletic, full-bodied woman. Her feed inspires me to move more and to embrace the skin I’m in.

Now that’s healthy!

You Are a Work In Progress

Let’s be real: it isn’t fair to compare our health journey to someone who is farther along than us. Those two things are not the same!

What matters is the choices that we are making right now. Are they better than the choices we made yesterday? Or the choices we made last week? Last month?

Once I had someone ask me to imagine where I want to be in a year’s time. What do I want to have accomplished?

Then they asked me what I’m doing right now to get there.

Ask yourself: Where do you want to be in a year's time? What do you want to accomplish? Now: What are you doing right now to get there?Click To Tweet

Progress doesn’t happen over night. It takes time and determination. We’ve gotta stay focused and put in the work to see results.

Don’t be ashamed of where you’ve been or where you are now. Be proud of the good choices you’re making and the effort you’re putting in to get to where you want to be!

Don’t Wait For Tomorrow To Live A Healthy Life

I’ve written about this before but it bears repeating…don’t wait for tomorrow to live your best life!

Get started now! You don’t have to be fit in order to live a healthy life. You just have to get started!

Don’t wait until tomorrow. Don’t wait until Monday. Seize the next opportunity to make a healthy choice today.

Go for a walk on your lunch break. Instead of a side order of fries, order a salad or some steamed veggies. Instead of that soda, drink some water.

We’ve all got to start somewhere. Let this be your moment.

You can do it. I can do it. All we have to do is believe in and invest in ourselves.

We can be healthy now.

I’m definitely a work in progress but I’m trying and that’s what matters. What motivates me is to ease my back pain and I feel better and more excited about life when I’m exercising regularly.

I love your goals and your perspective!

I try to see exercise as a form of therapy or medicine. It helps me feel good and it keeps my head clear. It’s something I GET to do, not something I HAVE to do.
